My company is not a current m2m apps member. Am I eligible to participate in the M2M Challenge?

m2m apps membership is a requirement for participation in the M2M Challenge. M2m apps membership is free and you can register online at: http://m2mapps.com/registration.php.

The only exception to the m2m apps membership requirement for participation in the M2M Challenge is for college/university students. m2m apps membership is optional for students registering for and participating in the M2M Challenge. Students who elect to become m2m apps members may create user accounts associated with their school’s existing m2m apps membership, but may not register their school as a member of m2m apps. Only individuals holding the power and authority to accept the m2m apps privacy policy and m2m apps terms and conditions as described on www.m2mapps.com on behalf of a college or university may establish m2m apps memberships.

I am a student.  Am I eligible to participate in the M2M Challenge?

Yes. College and University students are eligible to participate in the M2M Challenge. Students should enter the name of their school in the mandatory “Company / Organization / University” field of the online registration form.

Students are not required to have active m2m apps memberships to register for or participate in the M2M Challenge. Students who elect to become m2m apps members may create user accounts associated with their school’s existing m2m apps membership, but may not register their school as a member of m2m apps. I am not a student and am not affiliated with a company.  Am I eligible to participate in the M2M Challenge?

Individuals can take part in the M2M Challenge, but m2m apps membership is a requirement for participation in the M2M Challenge. Individuals can also register at http://m2mapps.com/registration.php.

Is there an entry fee for the competition?

M2M Challenge registration is free of charge.

How do I submit my application solution?

You can register for the M2M Challenge and submit your new applications and products via the M2M Challenge secure Internet registration database from May 14 until November 30, 2013 12:00 pm Central European Time (CET).

Registrants must select a user name and password to complete registration. Participants must supply specific personal data that will be electronically saved, used and processed by the organizer for execution of the M2M Challenge competition and the award of prizes to winners of the competition. This data is mandatory.

After completion of the initial registration process, registrants may access the registration database with their individual login and password as often as necessary until November 30, 2013 to complete their final concept submission. Registrants must supply all data mandatory for the submission process by November 30, 2013 12:00 pm Central European Time (CET) to have their concept included in the evaluation process of the competition. Incomplete submissions will not be entered into the competition.

My concept does not exactly target any of the five categories Mobility, Consumer Electronics & More, Energy, Healthcare, or Security. Can I still submit my idea for the competition?

Yes. Innovative applications for new ways of m2m communication will be accepted for evaluation. Please select the category which is the most suitable for your innovation.

Do I need to submit a prototype or running product for the competition?

Yes, as the M2M Challenge is a competition for working M2M solutions, you need to submit either a running prototype or a product that is either already on the market or a product that is to be launched soon.

Can I submit more than one concept for the competition?

Yes. You may enter more than one solution. Once you have created your account, you can submit additional solutions by starting a new entry for each solution.

Do I have to protect my concept before participating in the M2M Challenge?

Concepts submitted to the M2M Challenge may become excluded, lost, or considered common property. We therefore strongly recommend that you take steps to sufficiently protect your intellectual property before submitting your concept for the competition.

Who are the judges and how will they evaluate submitted concepts?

The panel of judges will consist of international industry and research experts from the fields of ICT, electronics, sports and healthcare. The judges will evaluate concepts through an anonymous, online evaluation process that will be used to select the top ten ideas for final evaluation. The evaluation of the top ten concepts will be done in a meeting of the judges who will nominate the best m2m apps and the four runners-up from the ten ideas selected for final evaluation. All judges will be required to sign a non-disclosure-agreement (“NDA”) before beginning the concept evaluation process.

What will happen to my submission if my concept is not selected as one of the finalists?

If your concept is not selected as one of the ten finalists your name and concept will not be published. Contest sponsors and judges will have the option to contact individuals not selected as finalists if there is an interest in further evaluation of their concepts.

What can I win?

The overall winner of the M2M Challenge will receive USD 5,000 in cash. The 10 finalists will be presented to the public through various media activities and can get in contact with sponsoring companies and partners. Furthermore, all finalists will be presented in early 2014 where they can generate lots of media interest and meet potential partners, customers or investors.

What criteria will the judges use to evaluate concepts?

The panel of M2M Challenge judges will evaluate concepts based on the level of innovation as well as opportunity for successful implementation and the marketability of the concept.

When will I be notified about the status of my submission?

The judges will complete the online evaluation of all concepts and select the nine finalists by February 2014. Participants whose concepts are one of the ten selected for final evaluation will be notified in February 2014. Participants whose concepts are not nominated for final evaluation will be notified of the judges’ decision by February 2014, too.

If I am one of the ten finalists. Will I need to present a real product or prototype for display at one of the trade shows or the award ceremony?

Yes, it should be a running prototype or a working product, but finalists will be contacted individually regarding suggestions for the best presentation of their concept.
